Seismic Retrofitting

We have completed more seismic retrofits than anyone and follow stringent technical guidelines to give homeowners the best earthquake retrofitting by the best construction team in the East Bay.

The most common causes of damages in homes with crawl spaces

Older houses were built before modern seismic building codes were put in place and are especially vulnerable to damage from earthquakes. Bolting or bolting and bracing your house to its foundation can help prevent structural damage, such as your home from coming off its foundation.

Retrofitting your house before an earthquake is much cheaper than it is to repair it after an earthquake, but there are incentive programs like the Earthquake Brace + Bolt program (EBB) that provides eligible homeowners up to $3,000 toward a seismic retrofit.

Most houses need to be seismically retrofitted in three ways:

1. The cripple walls of the house need to be braced with plywood, converting them to shear walls
2. The house needs to be bolted to the foundation.
3. The floor of the house needs to be attached to the braced cripple walls.
